Donald Andrew Richter age 56 passed away on 31 October 2017
from a fierce but short battle with prostate cancer.
Don is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Richter, father, John L. Richter,
brother, Alan Richter. Don was born and raised in Los Alamos, NM.
He attended the Los Alamos public schools and received a Bachelor's
degree in microbiology from University of California at Santa Cruz.
He then went on to earn a master's degree from Idaho State
University at Pocatello then joined the PhD. program at Kansas State
University at Manhattan, KS. Don worked as an immunology researcher
at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Don's great passion was steam railroads. He first rode the Cumbres
and Toltec Scenic Railroad as a teenager and became a narrow gauge
railroad afficianado. He was a member of the Friends of the Cumbres
and Toltec Scenic Railroad and spent many summer weeks working on
equipment and sites along the railway between Chama, NM, and Antonito,
CO. Don also founded and moderated the Narrow Gauge Discussion Forum
[1] ten years ago and has been a fiesty and active forum dedicated to
narrow gauge railroads.
Burial is scheduled in Jacksboro Texas in
the Ward family plot.
