Johnie M. Butcher, 88, of Denver, passed away on October 27, 2016 in Denver.

He was born October 13, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Orby L. and Leona (Mallone) Butcher.

Johnie graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1950 and received a Masters of Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1953.

As young teenager, began working in the commercial printing industry.

After Johnie and Judy pursued the call to ministry in translation and publication in Nigeria, they moved to Denver in 1957, where he was employed for ten years in composing room of The Daily Journal. He retired from the City and County of Denver in 1997 as an administrative social worker.
He was a member of Bear Valley Church since 1963 where he served as a deacon and also sang in the choir.

Johnie was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts. He received the Denver Area Council's Scouter of the Year in 1965 and also the Wood Badge training in 1966 which is Scouting's highest recognition for volunteer leaders. Johnie was a Perpetual Member of Friendship Lodge No. 185 where he served in many officer positions. He was also a past participant in Toastmasters International.

Johnie and Judy were avid travelers. They traveled to Haiti, Thailand/Hong Kong, England/Scotland and Kenya primarily volunteer mission trips.

He was predeceased by wife of 52 years, Julia Condonier "Judy" Butcher and his parents.
Survivors include his sons, J. Mallone (Lois) Butcher, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia and Jeffrey R. (Pamela) Butcher of Memphis, Tennessee; Two grandchildren; one great-grandson; Sister, Mary Jeannelle Black of Oklahoma; Brother, Dr. Orby L. (Betty) Butcher, Jr. of Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bear Valley Church, 10001 W. Jewell Ave, Lakewood, CO 80232.
