Obituary for Jose Daniel Olguin
1948 - 2017
To Jose a father we would like to honor, passed on the morning of August 17, 2017 surrounded by family and friends.
This is a celebration of his life and love that he had given to so many without asking anything in return.
Jose Daniel Olguin was born November 7, 1948 and reside in Denver, Colorado where he attended Denver public schools. In 1973, Jose married Martha Olguin the love of his life and their marriage has lasted even longer then his work service. Jose was always a hard worker which is evident in his long job service with the City and County of Denver Public Works Department as a Supervisor, he had many workers under him that call him a friend more than a boss, I remember him always happy to help whenever needed. Jose retired after 30 plus years with the City and County of Denver, and started to enjoy the things he loved about life such as fishing, camping, coffee and spending time with his spouse and happy and willing to help out family members without complaining or giving grief which is rare in this world today.
Jose and Martha raised four beautiful children Irene Spikes, Monica Valdez, Rita Guerrero, and Jose Olguin jr.. Jose was a devoted husband and father always opening his home to those who needed a place to stay. Even though Jose was retired and did not have a reason to not sleep in, he was always up at the crack of dawn with a fresh cup of coffee and the morning paper to start his day, many times he would visit his sister Louise they were very close. He loved camping. As I recall us spending many summer holidays in the mountains "Pops" as Oz would call him would be the first one up to welcome the brisk mountain morning air and ready to go fishing. I love to sleep in but was always eager to spend time with my father-in-law talking with him I think he liked me and that is not an easy thing to do. I will miss that the most about him not being here.
Four years ago, Jose was diagnosed with lung cancer, I am not sure how this affected Jose being given this news however I found that he was strong and took life as it comes philosophy, even after he had become more fragile he was always smiling. I have known Jose for 26 years and I know that his kindness, strong will, and ability to smile during hard times helped mold me into who I am today.
Jose is survived by his wife Martha Olguin, daughters Irene Spikes, Rita Guerrero and sons Don Carlos Olguin and Jose Olguin jr. and proceeded in death by Monica Valdez who passed on April 30, 2014. He has sisters and brothers they are Louise, Nancy, Leona, and Rosa. Brothers are Fred, Anthony and Eloy. The accomplishments of Jose and Martha include many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
It was of great importance to Jose to love and share whatever he had to offer to his children, grandchildren as well as friends and family he was not a selfish person especially with his time. Thank you in celebrating the life of Jose Daniel Olguin.
