Dean Craig Heerdt, 58, of Aurora, passed away January 15, 2019.
He was born November 1, 1960 in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Donald and Darlene (Charlson) Heerdt. He was a graduate of Ringsted High School. On October 8, 1982 Dean married Kathy McCarthy in Ringsted, Iowa.
Shortly after their marriage, Dean and Kathy started their new life together in Aurora, Colorado. Dean started working for R.A.L. Drywall in 1982, working various jobs for 30 years. When the business closed, Dean began working for RTD in the Denver area.
Dean was a fixer. He could fix anything around the house and his family considers him a master craftsman. He loved his yard work and had a beautiful yard. Dean received "Yard of the Month" last year from the Village East Neighborhood Association. He was a member of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church and regularly attended Wednesday Bible Study. Dean also enjoyed playing Scrabble with his wife, Kathy, at least 5 days a week. Above all else, Dean enjoyed spending time with his family. He and his son, Jacob, would spend hours on end just talking about various things and life in general. He also enjoyed spending time with his two daughters, Erin and Amy, and the joy they brought to each other each day. Dean and Amy shared a special word, SHMILY, which means "See How Much I Love You." Erin, being the first born, always maintained a special bond with Dean.
Dean is survived by his wife, Kathy Heerdt; two daughters, Erin Renae Trimble, Amy Marie Heerdt (Amanda Vowell); one son, Jacob Dean Heerdt; parents, Donald and Darlene Heerdt; two sisters, Lavon (Butch) Kruse and Laurie (Rick) Jensen; two grandchildren, E.J. Trimble and Jordan Trimble; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, 1092 S. Nome St., Aurora, CO 80012.
