1954 – February 1, 2021
The family of Victor Verdeal is saddened to announce his passing on February 1, 2021, at the age of 67. Victor was born in Denver and remained his whole life as a respected and beloved Teacher and Mentor to thousands of young people.
Victor was encouraged as a student at Denver Lincoln High School to pursue his passion for Art. He received a degree from Metropolitan State College in Fine Arts, a minor in Psychology and an endorsement in Secondary Education.
Hired by the Denver Public Schools as an Art Teacher, Victor began his 36-year career – "not only as a teacher of skills, but a mentor of values", as so many students remember. Twenty years were spent teaching at Denver North High School, where he taught jewelry, ceramics, photography, yearbook, and stage craft.
There, the greatest accomplishment was stage craft, wherein he and the stage crew restored the stage, making it one of the best auditoriums in the District. There was a long list of amazing sets and productions. And it was in this area that Victor is remembered for his mentorship: connecting a diverse community to work together, and who learned the power of process, teamwork, friendship and the joy of a completed project, which instilled self-confidence. Victor was known to say, "This is the best part of my professional career".
Victor married the love of his life, Melissa, also a teacher. Together, they taught so many the art of possibility. They loved to entertain family and friends and travel. Victor enjoyed the sand and waves and being at peace with a pina colada.
Victor is survived by his wife, Melissa (Miskel-Underwood) Verdeal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Katherine (Vigil) Verdeal.
He is survived by his sisters, Cecilia Verdeal; Kathey Verdeal (Don); and his brother, Allen Verdeal, (Kris); and numerous nieces and nephews and family members.
A Celebration of Victor's Life will be held in the future.
