Sam Costanten was born in Denver, Colorado on November 19, 1955 and passed away in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on October 22, 2021 at the age of 65.
Sam was special from the beginning. Born with Von Rechlenhausen disease, his natural parents gave him up for adoption after birth.
The Costanten family Doctor told Mom about a baby boy that was up for adoption. Soon Sam was a part of the family. Mom and Dad made sure he had good tutors as he was somewhat learning disabled. Sam graduated High School.
Always a friendly guy, he would walk up to a stranger and say "Hi, I'm Sam, what's your name?"
Sam started working at about 14 years old. He always held a job until he retired from Safeway in 2011.
Sam did a lot of ride alongs with the Wheat Ridge Police Department and spent quite a bit of time at the Wheat Ridge Fire Department, where they made him an Honorary Fireman. He volunteered his time anywhere he was needed.
Sam liked to gamble, luckily, he won most of the time.
He knew sports, especially football and baseball; all the players and their stats.
Sam liked good food and he made delicious spaghetti. Never gave up his recipe though.
Sam knew people everywhere. It was not uncommon to hear someone shout, "Hey, Sam, how ya doing", even in faraway places like Florida.
We will all miss Sam in our own way. When you think of Sam in the days, weeks or even years to come, smile. We were all blessed to have known him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Mr. Sam Costanten may be made to West Metro Fire Rescue, 433 So. Allison Parkway, Lakewood, CO 80226.
