Brother Dan Gilbert, Jr. was born March 16, 1952, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the union of the late Dan Gilbert Sr. and Lula Pearl Swazer Gilbert. He was the third of four children blessed to this union. He departed this life December 19, 2021, at Parkview Manor Care Center in Denver, Colorado.
Dan Gilbert Jr. accepted Christ as his savior at an early age. He became a baptized member of the Riverside Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend H. Y. Bell. He was educated in the Monroe City and Ouachita Parish School System in Monroe, Louisiana.
On January 11, 2002, he married Mimi Young and to this union, one daughter was born, Danyelle Renee Gilbert.
Most of his adult life, Brother Gilbert lived in Denver Colorado, where he and his uncle King Swazer owned a barber shop called East Denver where he worked as a licensed barber.
Brother Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Lula Pearl Gilbert, one brother, Charles Gilbert and one niece, Shalandria Gilbert Booker.
Loving memories will be cherished by his three children, Danyelle Gilbert, Robin Young and Shaunta Young, and grandchildren Zoey Blea, Charles Young, Taylor Tye, and Royal Butler of Denver, CO. One sister, Barbara G. Davis of Monroe, LA; one brother, Clarence Ray Gilbert of Monroe, LA; two aunts, Luetta Bourn of Houston TX, Laura Howard of Aurora, CO; two uncles, Walter Swazer (Ethel) and Reverend Hardy Swazer (Barbara) both of Denver, CO. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Aurora, CO from 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022. Services will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 am.
