Lakewood's "Master Craftsman", Alan Leimbach, 81, died Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at his home. He was born to George Leimbach and Roslie Soltner Leimbach, August 19, 1939, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Alan spent his childhood in NE Washington D.C. and headed west to Colorado with his mother, sister, and brothers in 1954. He graduated from Alameda High School in 1957 where he was voted the senior with the most "Ideal Car", a 1956 Ford convertible. He affectionately called Colorado "the best state in the nation" and remained in the state the rest of his life.
Woodworking was Alan's passion. He was also an avid draftsman. One of his first accomplishments was designing and overseeing the building of his dream home with a mountain view in 1971. As the proud owner of "Leimbach's Master Craftsmen" in Wheatridge, Colorado, he spent decades custom remodeling homes and lovingly refinishing the treasured family heirlooms of his customers. His highest honors were restoring the private Wilson-McCarthy train car for the Anschutz corporation in 1985 and the Crook's Palace bar in Blackhawk, Colorado in 2006.
Alan enjoyed spending his free time outdoors; gardening, hiking mountain trails, telling stories around the campfire, or sketching the next big project. Loading up the big red truck for a visit to the mountains with the family was one of his greatest joys. In 2001, Alan and his wife, Jonnelle, purchased a cabin. They spent summers exploring their property and restoring their cabin's beauty.
With his dynamic personality, Alan could befriend anyone. Lending a hand to a neighbor to fix a squeaky door or passing on his carpentry expertise to others made him the happiest. He passionately assisted his children and grandchildren in their building projects no matter how big or how small. Most of all, Alan always celebrated life, and for him, laughter was the cure for everything.
Alan is survived by his wife, Jonnelle Leimbach, of Lakewood, three children: Melody Pearson, of Silver Spring; Marci Tripp, of Lakewood; Kevin Blagg, of Centennial, brother, Roland Leimbach, of Silver Spring, and eight grandchildren: William, Cady, Levi, Jonah, Gabriel, Kaitlyn, Rylee, and Regan. He is preceded in death by his parents George Leimbach and Rosalie Soltner Leimbach, sisters: Dorthea Clark and Rosalie Leimbach, brothers: Arthur Leimbach, George Leimbach, and Gordon Leimbach, and son, Garrett Blagg.
The family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Parkinson's Association of the Rockies.
