Albert L. Barbre, one day shy of 94, died February 1, 2011. He was born February 2, 1917 in Carmi, Illinois. Albert was known as Grandpa to family and friends alike. He worked for FDR's Civilian Conservation Corps program in the late 1930s building trails in the Pikes Peak region and Mesa Verde. Grandpa served as frontline infantry at the Battle of Guadalcanal and later as a military policeman for the Army during WWII. He retired after working for Gates Rubber Company for over 30 years. Grandpa was an avid fisherman and loved to spend the day out on the boat with his grandsons. Later in life, he was a dog magnet and an animal lover. He loved feeding birds and squirrels in his backyard. He loved his faithful companion to the end, an adopted poodle, Dmitri. He was married to Marie Rose (Braun) Barbre for 46 years (deceased 1988). He is survived by his daughter, Rose (Rick) Renz, his grandsons; Jeff (Rebecca) and John (Jeaneane); great grandchildren; Jeff Jr., Julia, William & Anthony.
