Albert (Bert) Rose was born to James and Nicolina Rose on August 7, 1920 in Denver, Colorado. He died at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley on January 30, 2008. He is 87. Bert grew up in North Denver. His parents died when he was very young and his brothers and sisters raised him. In elementary school he met his future bride, Helen Bondy. They were married on September 7, 1941.
Bert was inducted into the Army on July 28, 1943. He served in France in the transportation Corp. He was a truckmaster. While there he met music legend Glenn Miller and General George Patton. While in the Army he received the WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Meadal. He was discharged March 24, 1946.
After his discharge from the Army, Bert and Helen made their home in North Denver. Bert had various jobs; until he started a lifelong career in the automotive tire industry.
In the early 1950's Bert and Helen, along with their two children, moved to Aurora, CO. Between August 1954 and June 1955 Bert served in the Air National Guard as a Staff Sergeant for the 140th Motor Vehicle Squadron.
While living in Aurora, they had two more children. Bert also became very active in the Aurora Presbyterian Church (he was a church deacon and elder) and the community. He was an Aurora City Council member from 1959-1962. He was on the Board of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and its President from 1959-1969. He was active in the Columbine Sertoma Club. Bert also became a member of the committee to bring the 1976 Olympics to Colorado. Bert was very disappointed when Colorado voters rejected the Olympics. He was instrumental in bringing the first Grand Prix race to Colorado; it was held at Buckley Field in 1959. Bert received numerous awards for his community service, including the 1970 Man of the Year Award from Aurora Chamber of Commerce.
In 1973, Bert's work took Helen and him to Belmont, California. In 1976, they moved back to Lakewood, Colorado to be near their grandchildren. For a short time they were in the restaurant business, but Bert returned to the tire industry in 1978 when he and his wife moved to Greeley and Bert managed the JW Brewer Tire Store. Bert retired in 1988.
In 1983, Bert and Helen traveled to Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore. Bert really enjoyed seeing Paris again and going to Italy where his mother was born.
In 1990, they moved back to Lakewood to be near family and friends. While living there, Bert became active in the Sons of Italy. He also became interested in helping with the fundraising for Mother Cabrini's Shrine. He became their caller for bingo to raise money for the shrine.
While living in Lakewood at the Green Mountain Townhouses, Bert became involved in their homeowners association and fundraising projects for their clubhouse.
In November 2004, Bert and Helen moved back to Greeley to live at Bonell Good Samaritan Community.
Bert is survived by wife Helen; children Gary (Karey) Rose; Marcia (Greg) Woods, Valerie (Pat) Lewis and Albert B. Rose; grandchildren Joel (Angie) Rose, Josh (Natalie) Rose, Jaime Woods, Scott (Ashley) Lewis and Nicolina Woods. Preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
