Albertha Ann Cole was born in New Orleans, LA on October 28, 1958. She was lovingly called by her middle name "Ann" by her closest friends and family.
She was born to the late Dan Riley and Eola Cole (Williams). She was number 8 of 13 children and is preceded in death by both her parents, as well as her siblings Michael Cole¸ Eola Cynthia Cole, Earline Denise Cole, Betty Webster, and Eddie Anthony Cole.
Albertha graduated from George Washington Carver Senior High School in 1976, in New Orleans, LA. She relocated to Denver, CO in 1976 as well. She eventually went back to New Orleans, but after the birth of her daughter Chiquita, decided to relocate to Denver permanently. She went on to receive her Associate's degree from College America in 2011.
Albertha was a Certified Nursing Assistant for majority of her career. She worked in nursing homes, hospitals, and private homes. She also worked for Denver Public Schools for a time as a cook. Albertha enjoyed eating and cooking food (especially soul food), which led her to Walmart, where she spent the last four years working in the Deli. She gained so much joy from that job and made many friends with both her customers and co-workers. She went on leave once she was diagnosed with lung cancer and was not able to return.
Albertha was an active member of Antioch Community Church, where she was baptized as an adult. She loved singing, playing the tambourine, being a part of the Women's Ministry, and wearing her make-up, jewelry, and hats. She reconnected with her childhood friends and loved taking trips back home to New Orleans to celebrate major milestones with them.
Albertha's pride and joy was her grandson, Dominic. She took any opportunity she could to call him, visit with him, give him things his mother said he couldn't have, and talk about him to anyone who would listen. Her biggest hope was to take him to Disney for his 5th birthday, which will be honored.
She left her earthly home, for her heavenly home, on December 7, 2021. In October of 2020, she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She never let her diagnosis diminish her faith in God or stop her from doing the things she truly loved. She didn't lose her battle because she stopped fighting, but because God had finally called her home. She stayed strong and showed resilience and perseverance through her battle, all the way to the end.
Albertha would have wanted us to send her out with smiles and laughs. So, this is not a time to be sad, but a time to celebrate. Because although God has called her home, with us she has left her memories, love, and her spirit.
She was a devoted mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She leaves her love and remembrance to her daughter Chiquita Sanders (Cole); Son-in-law Stephen Sanders; grandchild Dominic Sanders; life-long love and best friend Elliehue August; siblings Carrie Kinard, Arthur "Mooney" Cole and his wife Theresa Cole, Jimmie Bobb, Joseph Cole, Jacqueline Cole, Daniel "Danny" Cole, Sylvia Cole and her husband James Carney, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
