Alfred Jerome McGhee, 73, of Denver, died Thursday, October 8, 2020. He was born to the late Thermas and Gertrude McGhee, August 25, 1947 in Holly Grove, Arkansas. The family moved to Denver when he was 4 years old. He attended Denver Public Schools. He married Francine Bailey in 1971. They were together for 54 years and meet when they were 12 years old at a summer program.
Alfred was drafted into the Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. When he returned home he worked for Colorado Paint Company and Kwal Paint. He then went to work for IBM in Boulder, where he received many certificates and awards. After he retired from there he went to work at the US Mint, where he continued to receive certificates and awards. He retired from the Mint in 2011. He loved playing and watching basketball, and football, camping and vacationing. He was always smiling and talking to everyone.
Alfred is survived by his wife Francine, one daughter Terry McGhee and one granddaughter Chelsea McGhee. He has one sister Carmella Wilson, two brothers Melvin McGhee and Victor McGhee, many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Thermas and Gertrude McGhee, and brother Thermas McGhee Jr.
A viewing will be held prior to services at Newcomer Funeral Home Sunday, November 1, 2020. Viewing and services will be for immediate family due to Covid19. A Zoom link will be available for extended family and friends to join the services. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
