Alfredo Herrera Jr., age 61, was born in Tulare, California on August 22, 1959 to Alfredo and Juanita Herrera. Alfredo went by many nick names growing up i.e. Freddie, Junior, Fred, Pélon, Skunk before he grew into his name: Alfredo Herrera Jr. Fred was a son, nephew, cousin, uncle, brother to four sisters, Dad to three daughters and one son and was Grandfather "Papoo" to ten grandchildren and friend to thousands throughout his life.
Growing up in the 60's the United Farmworker's Movement in California had a huge impact in his beliefs. As a child he worked the fields of California picking fruits and vegetables alongside his Mom, Dad and siblings. He went picketing major grocery stores in Denver and throughout Colorado during the grape boycott. Fred had a passion for renovating old cars into low-riders, his love for cars began with his love for fixing bicycles. He could be found in the west side fixing friend's bikes and cars. He loved oldies but goodie from the 50's and 60's, Santana was one of his heroes, as well as rancheras, cumbias, and Tex-Mex music. He was an artist, and lowrider community leader, helping create many low-rider clubs to get young people involved in car restoration and provided an alternative opportunity for youth in West Denver.
A Rosary will be held at Church of All Saints, 2559 S. Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80219 on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 10:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am. We will then cruise to his final resting place Golden Cemetery, 755 Ulysses St, Golden, CO 80401 where he will be placed alongside his Mom, Juanita Herrera. De Colores to all his family and friends.
