Alice Kobs was born to Leon and Nora Perkins on March 15, 1909, in Rantoul, Franklin County, Kansas. At the age of one, Alice moved to Meade, Kansas with her parents who settled on a farm 8 miles northwest of Meade. Alice attended elementary school in Mertilla Township and Missler. She was active in 4-H all during her youth. Alice graduated from Meade High School in 1928. At the last Meade High School reunion, Alice was acknowledged as the oldest living alumnus of Meade High School. She attended Kansas State College and returned to marry another 4-H member, Wallace Kobs.
Alice lived all her life in Meade until the age of 90. She was a life long member of the Meade United Methodist Church. For many years, she was active with the youth of the church as the sponsor of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Her life was actively centered around her family and her church in Meade. After the death of Wallace, Alice enjoyed the Beam Center and contributed to the activities of the Beam Center.
At the age of 90, Alice moved to Colorado to be with her daughter and family in Colorado. She lived at the Springwood Retirement Community and was active there in keeping the Scrabble and Pinochle games going.
Alice passed away January 12, 2009 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; two sons, Donald and Larry and a grandson, Roger. She is survived by her daughter Dorotha Leigh Hogue and her husband Don Hogue; her daughters-in-law, Ann Kobs and Letha Kobs; grandchildren, Sarah Fay, Richard, Greg, Steve, Rodney, Randy and Rick Kobs, Tim and Kent Hogue and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at the Meade United Methodist Church in Meade, Kansas on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 1:30PM, with Rev. Susan Greene, officiating. A private family interment will take place at the Meade Cemetery.
