Sadly Alice Orris Simkins (91) passed April 15th, she was born Dec 26, 1932 in Columbus Junction Iowa. As it turns out you can never take Iowa out of the girl that grew up on a farm in the depression era and the only sister of four brothers, it proved to shape her life as an independent, sassy woman. Alice was the first to defend the underdog, it was her signature trait and was appreciated by the many charities she supported.
Alice was somewhat of a pioneer of her time, never afraid to speak her mind or up and move her household to 5 different states and collecting good friends along the way. She would often take in a "down on their luck" relative or friend to live with her and her family while they got back on their feet.
Alice particularly enjoyed wild life and made many trips to the Colorado Mountains, Yellowstone Natl Park, Alaska, the Florida Coast and many more places in an effort to capture a glimpse. While married to husband " Jiggs " Ernest Simkins for 47 years, they spent vacations camping in the various campers they owned with children in tow.
Alice earned her retirement after working in the school system for many years with a special interest in Special Needs Programs and often volunteering to coach when needed.
Her family of 3 children, 5 grandchildren and great grandchildren will never forget her legacy of tenacity and warmth.
