Alvin Madison Yarbrough was born on July 31, 1951. He was a Denver native where he resided his entire
life. He never wanted to live anywhere else.
Alvin never married although he and his life partner, Yemiko Fullwood, had been together for 56 years.
He always said it was love at first sight, but she wasn't so sure. Through the years of life challenges, they
were together until his unexpected passing on February 22, 2024.
As a Denver native, Alvin was both excited and saddened by the changes he saw in the city, while
remaining a loyal fan of the Denver Broncos. He attended Denver Academy, Morey Junior High, and
West High School. At Morey, Alvin was on the swim team and won several medals and honors.
He had several jobs, primarily in the restaurant industry until Alvin caught the eye of Vannoy Talent
Agency. He appeared in local newspaper advertisements and national catalogs. Alvin also did runway
modeling for shows and events. His career in Denver was successful, Alvin was offered a contract by
Wilhelmina of New York, but he did not want to leave Denver.
Alvin then joined King Soopers thirty years ago and worked nights so that he could continue to care for
his mother and provide support during the day. He had a very special relationship with her and
continued to miss her until his death.
As an All-Purpose Clerk with King Soopers, Alvin was an active UFCW union member and became a
Union Steward. As a Steward he fought continually for labor rights and protections for everyone. He was
especially proud that men and women were treated equally.
Alvin enjoyed camping, fishing, and bowling. He loved being in the mountains because of the beautiful
scenery and nature. While bowling he developed a camaraderie and appreciated the social interactions
with his teammates. He eventually had to stop bowling due to the worsening condition of arthritis in his
fingers and back.
As a result of his worsening condition, he recently retired from King Soopers. During his retirement, he
planned to travel and remodel his home.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Corrie Fox and Buford Yarbrough. He is survived by his
family: Mary Whitfield, Jennel Anderson, Tomarow Whitfield, Korey Hairston, the love of his life Yemiko
Fullwood and a host of family and friends.
Alvin will be greatly missed.
