Once upon a time, in a small north Denver neighborhood known as "Little Italy", a second daughter was born to George and Nettie Tarantino. The precise date was April 29th, 1931. Her older sister was named Florine, and the family lived in close proximity with many relatives, including her grandma Perry. Under her father's influence Anna Mae learned to like baseball—specifically the Denver Bears, and later would become a big fan of the Denver Broncos.
Anna Mae attended and graduated from Denver North High School, part of the class of 1949. Soon afterward, she met the man to whom she would be married for nearly 70 years—Walter Gabbert. They met while working at Package Delivery in Denver. Anna Mae was in the packaging room while Walt was a delivery man.
Two years after they married, Walt and Anna Mae had the first of what would be six children, Linda. Two years later, David was born, then two more years brought Kathy into the family, who was followed by Mark, Lori, and Tammy.
Anna Mae is remembered for being a tremendous homemaker… an awesome cook (her lasagna is legendary, as well as her homemade birthday cakes), and a seamstress who a the years passed loved to crochet gifts for her loved ones. She bowled for many years and also loved to fish.
Both faith and family were top priorities for Anna Mae. She participated for many years in Bible Study and was also trained as a Stephen's Minister.
She is survived by her husband Walt, her six children, 17 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
