Annie Mae Merriweather

Annie Mae (Williams) Merriweather was born 09-04-1931 in Chicago, IL and died just four days after her 90th birthday on 09-08-2021.

He is survived by son, Nicholas Eric Merriweather, brother, Samuel Williams, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family members and lifelong friends.
Annie Mae is preceded in death by her husband Curley Merriweather, her parents Hattie Williams and Claude Williams, and siblings, James P Morgan, Paul Morgan, Dorothy (Morgan) Green, Claude Williams Jr. and Walter Williams. She graduated from Willard Elementary and from DuSable High School in Chicago. Annie Mae accepted Christ as her savior early in her childhood as a member of the Baptist Church.

Annie Mae, a beloved wife, daughter, sister, and aunt, she will best be remembered as a devoted and loving mother to her only son, Nick. After Curley passed away in 2009, Annie continued to maintain a caring and comfortable home for Nick.

Annie Mae was originally from the southside of Chicago, and she and Curley enjoyed describing their mutual love of jazz, how much they enjoyed the city's nightlife in the 1950s and 60s and the celebrities they had seen perform including Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Charlie Parker.

In 1974, Annie Mae, Curley and Nicholas came to Denver. Annie Mae transferred from Chicago to the Denver office of the Railroad Retirement Pension Board. But even as she established a new life in Denver, she continued to travel regularly to visit her mother, family members and maintained long-time friendships. She retired from the Pension Board in the mid-1980s, but kept many of the connections with her friends and co-workers.

While Annie Mae never forgot her Chicago roots, she and Curley hosted many delicious Christmas dinners for her Denver family and helped several family members settle in Denver.

With a wonderful sense of humor and engaging laughter, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
