Colorado native Anthony Capraro, 84 years old, left this world on Monday, October 12, 2009. He was found in his car unresponsive and was rushed to Swedish Hospital emergency room where doctors tried in vain to revive him.
Tony was born May 20, 1925, in Florence, CO to Italian immigrant parents Nicholangelo Capraro and Claire Angelucci-Capraro, who eventually settled in Denver. The youngest of five children, he is survived by two sisters, Mary and Yolanda, and one brother Camillo "Charlie." He is reunited with his late wife Dorothy Bevington-Capraro who predeceased him on May 8, 2008, and with his late brother Joseph. Tony served as an electrician's mate aboard the USS Croaker (SSK-246) during World War ll. After the war he married his high school sweetheart Dorothy. They had three children Karen Capraro-Peeters, Susan Capraro-Back, and Michael Capraro who survive Tony along with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Tony was a master electrician and proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He was an electrical inspector for the city of Denver. Tony lived by three words: faith, family, and friends. He will be remembered as always trying to do right by his family, friends, co-workers, and anyone he met.
Tony was an active member of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc., Sons of Italy, Southwest YMCA Chatfield Branch as well as Go Getters and Canasta Club. An avid outdoorsman, Tony loved to hunt and fish and exemplified reverence for God's creation. Those close to Tony will recall his playful side including jokes he played. He was a devout member of Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 5100 W. Evans Avenue in Denver, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a burial service at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 11:30 am. A Rosary service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home at 901 S. Sheridan Blvd. in Lakewood on Monday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m.
Tony Capraro will be sorely missed by countless people whose lives he touched as a father, friend, and mentor.
