Art Ebert was born on July 14th, 1923 near McCook Nebraska to Henry and Pauline Ebert. He was the 11th of 13 children. His family moved to Denver when he was 7 years old. He graduated from West High School and then worked as a machinist until he was drafted into the Army. He had tried previously to enlist but was told that his eyesight was too poor to join the military. He served for 3 years and 29 days. He spent most of his time in Europe as a cook on a hospital train. Near the end of his tour, he also served as a truck driver. When he returned home, he met Betty Lou Mahaffie at church. They were married on October 5th, 1947. Eight years later, God blessed them with a son, Andy. Art worked as a Bread Delivery Man for a few years and then decided to move his family to Oklahoma to start a small business when Andy was 3. The business did not work out and they returned to Denver a few months later. Art eventually became an Insurance Agent with Prudential which he pursued until he retired in 1985. Art really never retired, he worked part-time at Sears and he spent the last 10 years working for the Highlands Ranch Recreation Center 3 afternoons a week where he loved interacting with the kids. Art's passion was spending time with his two grandsons, their wives, and his new great granddaughter. He was so proud of them and their families. Art loved family get-togethers and treated all his nieces and nephews as if they were his own kids. Art enjoyed fishing and golf and he loved to travel with his beloved wife. Art never left home without taking a special gift with him – the gift of eternal life. He accepted the Lord as a very young man and he never wavered from the path God set before him. On April 10th, 2009 (Good Friday), at 10 minutes before midnight, Art received the fullness of his gift – he left all of us to be with Jesus in his heavenly home. Since that time, he has been catching up with family and friends who had gone on before him and he attended the ultimate Easter celebration in Heaven. He is enjoying his new body and his new home, and he hopes that we will all join him some day. All we need to do is receive our gift and carry it with us as he did. Art is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Lou, his son Andy (Donna), his grandson Justin (Kristine), his grandson Jared (Jessica), his great granddaughter Brooklynn Hope, and his sister Florence Benson.
