Arthur Vago

September 19, 1931 — May 27, 2023

Arthur Vago, Devoted husband, father and grandfather passed peacefully on May 27, 2023 at the age of 91.

Art is survived by his stepson Marty (Jane) Bummer; grandson Steven Bummer and grand daughter Jennifer Bummer. Art is preceded in death by his wife Rita; his parents; John Sr. and Ethel, Brother John Jr., Sisters Irene and Ethel (Fif) son Jim, daughter Diane and grand-dog Zedric.

Art was born in Tunkhannock, PA. on September 19,1931. He proudly served in the United States Army for 22 years. Arts final rank was Master Sergeant with a specialty title of Medical Senior Sergeant. During his time in the military he was stationed in a MASH unit during the Korean and Vietnam war. Most notably decorated with the Bronze Star in both theaters. Honorably discharged December 24, 1969, retired and then transferred to Fitzsimmons General Hospital Denver Colorado May 31, 1971.

Art lived a life overflowing with experiences that progressed him into the loving and kind man his family and friends will dearly miss. Pennsylvania was the site of Art's humble beginnings where he grew up on the family farm working tirelessly day in and out to provide for his family. After coming of age, Art enlisted in the Army as soon as he could with hopes of a stable and opportunistic career intending to help others. The decision to enroll in the Army's field medical unit speaks to his benevolence. Art served a 22-year long career, which saw him stationed in numerous countries, most importantly Germany where he spoke of fond memories filled with beer and brats. Art never shied away from indulging nostalgic feelings where he would vividly describe the late nights with his Army friends, often resulting in base rules being broken in hilarity. The darker times of his service were seldom spoke about, but Art survived both the Korean and Vietnam Wars serving in M.A.S.H. units while earning several medals and ribbons, notably two Bronze Stars. Significant amounts of lives were undoubtedly saved by his hand and direction in the operating room. Art's desire to provide aid to those in need was strained in this era as he closely saw and endured the atrocities of war; however, Art never let these experiences affect his character and remained a loving man throughout the remainder of his life. In the sunset of his honorable and tenured military service, Art was relocated to Aurora, Colorado where he continued to work in operating rooms for injured soldiers. It was at this point where he met Rita, which sparked their decades-long bond in love. Art's heart was forever full after this moment as he and Rita were tied at the soul. Their relationship was truly beautiful to behold and brought deep happiness to all those around. As Art found himself in retirement, he took time to enjoy simpler things in life such as golfing, gambling, and spending time with family. Art was a friend to everyone he came across, taking great enjoyment in cultivating friendships with servers at his favorite restaurants. He was a loving brother, father, and grandfather. Art is a hero in the most objective sense, and his memory will live on in all those he touched with his love and generosity.
