Artulia LaVerne Carroll was the eighth child of nine children born to the late Reverend Clyde and Artulia Davis in Marion, Arkansas on June 29, 1936. She was an inquisitive and sweet child with a great affinity for Christmas and snowmen. As the namesake of her mother, she was very close to her and often shared the teachings received from her mother, such as always doing what is right regardless of others.
Being raised in a Christian home, Artulia gave her life to Christ at a very early age. She would go on to become a Lutheran where she was a member of St John's Lutheran Church and Bethel Lutheran in Gary, IN before relocating to Denver, CO. She joined Lord of the Hills Lutheran Church in Aurora, CO as her final home church.
Artulia received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University Northwest in Organizational Communications. Her degree would serve her well as she devoted 22 years to the Gary Police Department as one of six women appointed in May 1970. During her career she would serve in many capacities, as in the juvenile bureau, police liaison in a local high school, Officer Friendly in the Gary Public and Catholic schools, Community Sub police station, and in the detective bureau as an Investigations Officer.
After retiring from the police department, she continued on to get a paralegal degree from Denver Paralegal Institute, where she was able to work for the law firm of Kristopher Colley. To conclude her professional career, she retired for a second time after 13 years. with the Environmental Protection Agency as a senior employee.
On October 16, 2023, Artulia made her way to the golden gates of heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and three sisters Frances Southall, Ruth Tucker, Clyde E. Davis, Clarence Davis, Fred Davis, M. Rogers Davis, Notrie Scott, Hosea Davis, and her daughter Paulette L. Carroll.
From her marriage to Paul L. Carroll, she leaves four children to cherish her memory. Eric L. Carroll (Michele) of Aurora CO, Darnell G. Carroll (Karen) of Indianapolis, IN, Kristen A. Parker (Glenn) of Centennial, CO, and Belton R. Carroll (Wanda) of Dacula, GA.: Ten grandchildren, Peyton Carroll (Seline), Aaron Newby (Tessa), Graham Carroll, Tyler Carroll, Jazmine Parker, Jordin Garnett (Alvin), Morgan Milstead (Samantha), Demetrius Parker, Endia Carroll, Joshewa Carroll, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
