Barbara Jane Kreutz Barrett, 85, of Westminster Colorado, passed away Monday, January 22. She was born to Oscar and Marion Kreutz on March 15, 1932 in Sioux City, Iowa. Barbara graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington DC in 1950. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware for two years before transferring to the University of Colorado in Boulder where she received a BA in Sociology and a minor in Psychology in 1954. Barbara met the love of her life, Michael Henry Barrett at CU. They were married on August 7, 1954 and lived in Chautauqua Park while Mike finished his Civil Engineering degree. After moving to the Denver area, they resided on S. Pearl Street before buying their forever home in 1956 in Westminster.
She worked as a clerk-typist until the children came along, and then spent her life as an involved and contented homemaker. She served as Denver Girls Board of Directors Vice President and Secretary, Denver Ladies of Rotary Board of Directors Member and Scholarship Chairman, Regional Boy Scouts of America Convention Chairman and Area Executive Hostess, PTA President and Board Member, Junior High Parents Advisory Committee Member, Girl Scout Leader, Head Room Mother, Swim Team Mother, Election Judge, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and for various political and civic duties.
Barbara was confirmed at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church in DC in 1941, where Barbie and Mike were later married. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church since the 1960s. She organized gatherings for groups of friends with shared interests, such as the KKBNA lunch bunch, her book club of 17 years, and for her adored neighbors. As the family historian, she documented countless photos, heirlooms and stories for future generations, and organized family reunions.
Having a love for adventure and travel, Barbie and Mike toured European, Middle Eastern and Asian countries, sailed on cruises to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Africa and South America, traveled throughout North and Central America, visited Australia, and enjoyed time in their motorhome, as well as their vacation homes in Roatan Bay Honduras, Manzanillo Mexico, Sunset Ranch near Granby, and the Gold Creek cabin in the Henry Mountains of Utah. She loved skiing and scuba diving.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Michael H. Barrett and her four children, all of whom live in Colorado: Michael Robert (Monnie) Barrett of Lakewood, Mary (Todd) McNeil of Morrison, Bonnie (Dan) Mitchek of Evergreen, William (Angie) Barrett of Parker; and eleven grandchildren: Lexi, Chloe and Mia (of Michael Robert), Matthew and Tyler (of Mary), Justin, Micala, Cole, Hannah ( of Bonnie), Emma and Liam (of William).
