Barbara Jo Wasko “Barb” passed away June 19th 2024 at the age of 72. Barb was
born in Omaha Nebraska on August 30th 1951 to Norman and Lorraine Wasko.
She received her Bachelors of arts from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1973,
followed by a Bachelors of Science in Education in 1978. She was awarded her
Masters of Arts from the University of Denver in 1996.
Barb began her teaching career at the Omaha Public School system. She moved to
Colorado in 1983 and began her teaching career with the Douglas County School
System. In 1987, Barb began teaching Social Studies at Douglas County High School
retiring in 2006.
After retiring from teaching she followed her passion for the arts as a docents at
Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA) along with continuing her enjoyment of
music. She continued her love of the outdoors and gardening, spending time and her
love at her home garden. Barb was an avid crafter known for her personalization of
every card or gift to the recipient reflecting their personality. Barb was loved by all for
her vibrant spirit, inclusion and welcoming of all, along with a strong thirst for
knowledge.
Barb was preceded in death by her father Norman and her mother Lorraine. She is
survived by her cousins and god daughters.
A celebration of life will be held for friends and family. Donations in Barb’s name to the
Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
