Becky L. Kennedy

January 30, 1961 — August 21, 2021

Becky Kennedy went to her heavenly home to be with her father before sunrise on August 21, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving councilors and staff at the Rosewood Group Home.

She is survived by her mother Helen, and brothers Michael and Danny Kennedy, and
sisters Susan Tinkey and April White, along with several nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Becky was the fifth child of Helen and James Kennedy. Born on her father's birthday, she was always his favorite gift! Despite being born with Down Syndrome, she was a special little angel, raised in a loving home, along with her older brothers and sisters.

She was a shining jewel in her family, with her infectious smile, sweet disposition, always singing, dancing, and hugging everyone. Becky grew and thrived like every other normal child in her neighborhood. Her developmental disability did not prevent her from living a life filled with love, and lots of adventure. She won several medals in the Special Olympics with her passion for swimming, gymnastics, and bowling. Becky was also a cheerleader for the "Weiland Wildcats", at her school in Lakewood.

In 1982, after graduating from Weiland, she moved into a group home near Southwest Plaza to learn how to cook, do laundry, daily chores, and work in the community. Ten years later, the DDRC (Developmentally Delayed Resource Center) in Jefferson County decided she was ready to move into her own apartment. Becky worked several part-time jobs over the years, including the Cooper Cinema, Red Lobster and King Soopers. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and councilors to Branson, Graceland, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and on cruises. Becky was an avid dancer and never shy. She performed a hula dance and rocked out to "Rock Around the Clock" in true 50's style during a talent show while on a cruise with her family in Hawaii. She lived "semi-independently" in an apartment for over 21 years until her memory began to decline, Becky had to move into a smaller complex with two bedrooms, which also served as the councilor's office, and they could help her if she needed it. As her dementia progressed, she spent the last three years of her life in a specialized group home, being loved and cared for by councilors and staff who had known her for over 30 years.

The family wishes to thank all their friends, neighbors, Becky's teachers, and her coworkers for all of their patience, and genuine kindness that filled Becky's soul with love and happiness over the past 60 years. They would also like to extend their gratitude to the many, many councilors and staff at DDRC for their excellent programs and care they provided to Becky since 1965.

Becky's ashes will be buried with her father at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at a future date. Due to Covid restrictions, her family had a small private Celebration of Life to remember Becky, and her love for Elvis, Fonzie, and the movie "Grease".
