Benjamin Heath Lane

July 3, 1974 — June 30, 2018

Benjamin Heath Lane, 43, of Denver and Steamboat Springs Colorado, died Saturday, June 30, 2018 surrounded by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, and his Uncle Joel. Ben was born in 1974 in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he spent his early childhood before moving to Pope County Arkansas and where he graduated from Russellville High School in 1992. He then completed his 1997 bachelor's degree at The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Ben grabbed the opportunity to move to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2005 before finally settling in his family's beloved Colorado in late 2007.

Ben, a gourmet chef, was co-proprietor of Sambi Canton restaurant in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. His versatility also led him to careers in Exercise Science, Corporate Account Executive roles and his ultimate adventure job on NCL's Pride of America, Hawaii-based cruise ship, for which he used his Merchant Mariner's License from The U.S. Coast Guard.

Known for his unyielding loyalty, love, and charity to others, Ben amassed lifelong friendships and prioritized making great memories with family and friends over the acquisition of earthly possessions. As a musician, he was the first to step up and lead off karaoke and dance. He was fearless and challenged himself by completing several marathons, long distance bike races, Colorado 14'r climbs, surfing and snowboarding.

Benjamin is survived by his parents, Ronnie and Gail Lane, his beloved sister, Rebecca Lane, and his brother-in-law, Bernardo Lopez, all of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his maternal grandfather Earl Farnsworth, and step-grandmother Melba Watson of Tyler Texas, four aunts, three uncles, twelve first cousins and a host of lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Elva Dean Farnsworth last of Yell County, Arkansas; his paternal grandparents, Harlan and Margie Lane last of Saline County, Arkansas, and paternal uncle, Hardy Lane last of Little Rock, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Benjamin Heath Lane Memorial Fund, which will be distributed to causes supporting his love and stewardship of the environment and humanity.

A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 11a-12p Saturday, July 7, 2018, followed immediately by his memorial service. Separately, the family invites all attendees to a luncheon in his honor, which details will be provided at the end of his service.
