Bennie Lee Sanders Jr., 86, of Denver, went to heaven Friday March 22, 2019.
He was born in Longview, TX on December 22, 1932, to the late Almita Raford (Gans) and Bennie Lee Sanders Sr. Bennie graduated from Longview High School and entered into the Military, where he served in the U.S. Army. In 1992, Bennie relocated to Denver, CO.
Bennie served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955. His rank was a Private Second Class (PV2), and he served during the Korean War period. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Parachutist Badge. He was passionate about Golf and enjoyed playing, watching, and talking about it every chance he got. His favorite places in Denver to golf were the Park Hill Golf Club and City Park Golf Course. At the age of 15, Bennie began working as a Caddy, at a local golf course in Longview. At 3:00 a.m. every morning, Bennie would ride his bicycle to the golf course. This is where he learned how to play golf and his passion for the sport developed. He also worked for the Meadow Gold Ice cream company, as well as, Starcraft where he worked with pop-up camper trailers.
Bennie was affectionately called "Too Buddy" by his family and had a love of cooking. His specialty is what he called "Tootie Fruity", which was mixing together everything he had in his refrigerator to create a delicious meal.
Bennie is survived by his only son Stephen (Chiquita) Sanders, of Denver. He is also survived by two grandchildren Stephen Sanders Jr. and Dominic Sanders. He is preceded in death by his parents Almita Raford (Gans) and Bennie Lee Sanders Sr., Sisters Laura Stigger; Julia Henson; Myrtle Rosco; Athree Johnson; and Brother Willie D. Field.
A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Wednesday April 10th, 2019. Services and burial will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery (Stage area C) Wednesday April 10th, 2019 at 1:15 pm. A repast will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
