Bernard Selvy

Bernard Ray Selvy
AKA: 'Bernie', Daddy, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Uncle Bernard,

Bernard left to be with God at age 87, on September 13, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife Wanita Irene Selvy of 65 years; daughter, Bernita Selvy Curry; son, Charles Ray Selvy; granddaughter, Sheri DeVita; grandson, Josh Curry; granddaughter, Chantell Curry; grandson, Nicholas Selvy; 9 great grandchildren, Sierra, Terra, Michael, Shane, Cassandra, Nathaniel, Khalad, Alya, Amena; 1 brother, Buford L Selvy and 2 sisters-in-law Peggy Thies and Charlene Farmer.

Bernard was born in Clayton, New Mexico and moved to Marion, Kansas to begin the 4th grade. This same year he met and fell in love with Wanita Razor. The couple was married in 1942. How wonderful that they got to be best friends for 77 years.

The Navy called him in 1942, while serving his country he helped repair airplanes and anything else that was ask of him.

In 1947 Bernard and Wanita moved to Newton, KS. Their 2 children were born in Newton where they lived until 1960. Bernard and Wanita went into business with Bernard's father Ray Selvy. They joined his parents in an existing paint and wallpaper store that grew into a furniture store, and of course then needed to add an Interior Decorating department.

1960 brought a move to Colorado. Bernard became a realtor. His specialty was helping people buy and sell farms and ranches all over the state. He was very successful at this and made many life-long friends. Because of his passion for horses he began breeding, showing and raising them. Bernard and his son Chuck did the training and showing of the horses, winning 3 World Championships. They made a great pair and produced many prize horses. The trophy room was full of ribbons and trophies, including Grand Champion Stud at Canadian Nationals. During this phase they had a ranch in Parker, CO. Selvy Appaloosa's had people from coast to coast sending their broodmares to be bred to his World Champion Stallion.

The family is a member of South East Christian Church, now located in Parker, CO. They attended church there for 35 years. Bernard was active as an usher and deacon for many years. Bernard's faith in God was visible in everything that he said and did.

After retirement Bernard and Wanita moved to Heather Gardens where they lived until early 2007.

Bernard was very active in Lions Club no matter where he lived. He was elected President 3 different times in 48 years and was always right there to lend a hand for any fund raising events. He received the highest Lions Club Service award, known as the 'Melvin Jones Fellow Award'.

He lived a wonderful charismatic life. He was loved by so many!

Please pass this to any and all of Bernard or Wanita's friends and family.

Wanita is living at the Aurora Care Center, 10201 E. 3rd Avenue, Aurora, CO 80010.

The family has not made a decision on any Memorial Fund so please send any contributions to Bernard and Wanita's daughter, Bernita Selvy Curry, 10466 E. Stanford Circle, Unit H-10, Aurora, CO, 80015. Bernita will then make certain that the proceeds are sent to the appropriate place.
