Bernice Brungardt

78, of Byers, CO, passed away in her home on Nov. 8, 2008. Born in Hays, KS on July 14, 1930, Bernie and her husband of 58 years, Kenneth, lived much of their lives in Grinnell, KS where they raised nine children. They lived the past eight years in Byers, CO. Thanks to an unwavering faith in God, she never lost her sense of humor, and laughter was the order of the day in her house. She was intensely proud of her children, who often displayed her own independent nature while depending upon her to teach them how to tame it. Bernie enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never turned down an opportunity to play a board or card game. A challenge to a game of hearts often left her opponent wondering what happened by the time the game was done. Over the years, Bernie loved and cared for a variety of pets and every stray cat within blocks of her house knew where it could find a meal, kind words, and a loving heart. She is survived by her husband: Kenneth, of the home; sister: Virginia Schoenthaler, Denver; and 8 children: Mike Brungardt, Euless, TX; Kevin Brungardt, Sublette, KS; Rene Morris, Danbury, NE; Steve Brungardt, Littleton; Sonya Medbery, Stockbridge, GA; Tom Brungardt, Garden City, KS; Brian Brungardt, Bison, KS; and Gina Yingling, Hutchinson, KS; 21 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Alois & Anna Korbe; a sister, Cecilia Leiker; a brother, Francis; and a son, Gary. Viewing from 6-7PM and Rosary at 7PM on Tuesday, 11/11 at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10AM on Wed., 11/12 at Our Lady of the Plains Catholic Church, Byers, CO.
