Bertha Lee Broach, "Birdie" (age 90), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020 of natural causes. Birdie was the daughter of Charles & Sallie Mae Bailey of Florence, South Carolina.
Bertha worked for Aurora Public Schools as the kitchen manager and retired in 1992 after 20 years of service. After retirement, Bertha volunteered her time at Sable Care Nursing home and at Women's Health Pavilion in Aurora.
Born in Florence, South Carolina, she was the middle daughter of three children. As an adult, she assumed the role of family matriarch, always taking the lead to organize gatherings and supplying the meals. Her warm smile, hugs and cooking will be missed the most. She was a humble servant of God and lived a life of service for helping others.
Whether it was a special occasion or just a day off from work, Bertha often spent her free time watching the Denver Broncos or Colorado Rockies and in the kitchen. Among her best-known dishes: fried chicken, fried okra and pot roast with gravy.
She was one of the original members of Chambers Road Baptist Church and then Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them but especially loved her role as a grandmother. While being a military spouse of 28 years, stationed in Italy and Germany to name a few.
Birdie will desperately be missed by her daughters Susan and her husband Bill Hamilton, Tami and her husband Glen Sidwell and youngest daughter Teresa Simoneau. Her immediate grandchildren, Kelli and her husband Bryan LeVan, Tera and her husband Uly Parker, Brittney and her husband Justin Drapal, Jessica and her husband Ben Gardner. Her immediate great grandchildren, Logan, Olivia, Knox, Rylee & Mckenna. Her sister-in-law Nancy Broach and her children Tina Mayer and Richard Broach.
Bertha is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alfred Howard Broach, mother Sally Mae Hudson, father, Charles Baily, Sr., sister Louise Allen, brother Charles Bailey, Jr., brother in law Thomas Broach and son in law, Brian Sousa.
Due to current public health orders and restrictions that limit chapel capacity, memorial services will be kept private.
If you would like to pay respects, you may join the family at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, staging area "B" on October 13th at 11:30 am where her ashes will be laid to rest with her husband (See Map Below), or at the reception following at 1:00 pm, 4046 S. Liverpool Way, Aurora, CO 80013
