Betty Mae Doll, 90, of Castle Rock, formerly of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away November 4, 2020.
She was born April 29, 1930 in Brush Fork, West Virginia, the daughter of Okey and Opal (Harris) Delaney. She was the oldest of 5 children.
Betty worked for Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company in Wheeling packing tobacco for over 25 years. After her husband passed away, she moved to Denver to live with her daughter, Deborah, and her family. She then worked as a pants presser. She was "the fastest pants presser in the West," pressing up to 100 pants per hour. Later, Betty worked as a nanny and was known as "Grandma Betty" at her church.
Betty met Kenneth Doll while working in a candy shop in Clarksburg, West Virginia. After meeting, they worked together singing country music on the radio and had their own band. They were married on stage after a concert on February 3, 1948. Betty was also very supportive of her husband's career. Kenneth worked as a TV anchorman for many years and then left that career to run for congress. Betty and Kenneth got to meet President and First Lady Nixon and have dinner at the White House, also taking pictures with the President and First Lady. Kenneth passed in 1982.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved yodeling. Every Saturday was precious to her granddaughter. Mindy and Betty would always go shopping for a new outfit and accessorize it perfectly so that Betty could wear it to church on Sunday because she insisted on being well-dressed. She loved to cook and showed her love by feeding you. Betty never lost her love of candy, keeping a trunk full of candy and Coke at the foot of her bed. Betty loved to party and go country western dancing. She LOVED George Strait and would have to attend every concert when he came to town. She also enjoyed watching Steven Seagal movies. She was known as the life of any party and had more energy than the host. She absolutely adored her dogs, Pepe, Tuffy and Jax. Betty never knew a stranger and loved to socialize. She was known for her kindness and would give you the well-ironed shirt off of her back if you needed it. She cared for her friends and neighbors by pressing their shirts as they needed it.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Daniel) Marcus of Monument; granddaughter, Mindy Marcus of Monument; brother and sisters, Robert Lee (Sandra) Delaney of Michigan, Bernita Saltis of Clarksburg, West Virginia and Agnes Jean Taylor of Clarksburg, West Virginia and many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Kenneth Doll; brother, Okey Clarence Delaney II; father, Okey Clarence Delaney and mother, Opal Delaney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to the Alzheimer's Association Colorado Chapter, 455 Sherman St #500, Denver, CO 80203.
