Betty Jane Johnson, born Betty Jane McFall in Council Bluffs, IA, June 2, 1929 peacefully passed away Dec 25, 2022.
She is survived by her son Bob, daughter Janet, 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and a large and widespread extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell D Johnson, and her daughter JoAnn and her daughter-in-law Jeannie Johnson, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Betty was a quiet person who devoted her life to her family and expressed love to all through her deeds and actions.
Betty's family left Iowa and moved west following her father's work. At various times she lived in Brighton, Silver Plume, Palmer Lake and other towns. By good fortune, she found herself in Western Nebraska as WWII ended and met the love of her life when Darrell returned from service in the Army Air Corps. They married in 1947 and started a family soon after. Bob and then JoAnn came along as did the desire for greater opportunity for their growing family.
Denver was a boomtown in those post-war years and was the place for the Johnson family to build a better life. Janet was born soon after the move and the family was able to own their own home in the brand-new town of Thornton. Surrounded by neighbors with their own growing families, Betty made friendships that lasted a lifetime.
The active family and friends liked to camp and fish and enjoy the outdoors. Their lives were highlighted by frequent family gatherings including their large extended family and friends. After the kids were grown, Betty and Darrell took up RV travel. Their expeditions lasted for a few weeks at first but after Darrell's retirement they sold the family home and began to travel full time. They visited every state and most of Canada along the way. Of course, they stayed in close touch with family all along the road and always made it home for Christmas since family was always the top priority. Memories of their travels remained fresh and exciting for Betty throughout the years.
When the traveling years wound down Betty and Darrell bought a new home and happily found that they were once again almost next door to some of their lifelong neighborhood friends. After Darrell's passing in 2008, Betty continued her quiet and self-sufficient ways. She ultimately decided that independent (of course) living was right for her. There she loved to read, made new friends and spent as much time as possible with family.
Betty will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery with her beloved husband Darrell.
