Billie C. Flippen died peacefully on the morning of January 7, 2025, having succumbed to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Born February 25, 1945, in Portsmouth, VA to parents William and Elizabeth Cuthriell, Billie was a career educator, teaching English at the high school and college level prior to serving as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Texas Youth Commission.
Billie survived her loving husband Sergeant First Class Thomas V. Flippen (1945-2015), whom she married in Ashland, VA in 1967. Together they traveled the world for his military career, making homes in Germany, Virginia, California, and Texas. Everywhere she settled, Billie created an elegant home characterized by precision and grace. Billie enjoyed travel, the arts, and reading, combining these interests by documenting her Life Adventures through prose.
Billie is survived by her two sons, five grandchildren, and countless students touched by her love of learning.
