Bobby Joyce Campbell Keys was born on December 9,1942 in Topeka, Kansas to Robert and Alverta Campbell. At a young age, Bobby’s family relocated to Denver, Colorado, where she enjoyed a happy childhood with her siblings. Her parents and siblings: Melbourn “Buddy” (Carolyn), Marceline, Fayetta, and Patricia. all preceded her in death.
In Denver, Bobby met Joe Keys, and they married on September 4, 1959. Together, they were blessed with four daughters: Deberice Danette, who preceded her in death, Alyce Yevette, Brenda Rene, and Joél Delyce. Through this union, she also embraced three beloved bonus children: Joseph Carson, Valorie Lynette, and Gloria Ann.
In her younger years, Bobby was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she participated with Women’s Day programs and sang with the Women’s Day Choir. Following New Hope, she was a member of Heritage Christian Center, Rising Star Baptist Church and currently a member of Simchat Torah Beit Midrash.
Her grandchildren were the center of her life, and she treasured spending time with them. Willing to make any sacrifice for their wellbeing, she even quit smoking at her granddaughter Delyce’s request. Saturday morning breakfast and Sunday dinners with her family were especially meaningful to Bobby, who shared her love through cooking, especially her famous desserts like sweet potato pie, banana pudding, and cakes. These gatherings brought her immense joy, creating lasting memories and a sense of home for everyone. She cherished quality time with her grandchildren, enjoying park visits, feeding geese, cooking together, and sharing meaningful conversations. She was always there with a listening ear whenever they needed her.
She leaves behind her loving daughters Alyce Keys, Brenda Keys-Perry (Les), and Joél Clayburn; her bonus children Joseph Keys (Betty), Gloria Carter (Floyd), and Valorie Jackson (Michael); grandchildren Delyce Collins (John), Hanan Hankins, Lanyce Keys, Haley Kelley (Anthony), Alyce “Aly” Keys, Nicole Keys Thomas (Damyon), Christopher Carter, Stanton Williams, Summer Scott, and Tamara Scott; great-grandchildren Jayden Collins (Moriah), Imani, E’myia, Aryiah, Arjay, Amir, Aaron, Sanaia, Jordyn, Chase, Dillon, and Stassiya; great-great-grandchildren Carson and Henry; and goddaughter Crystal Danette. She is also cherished by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember her spirit warmly.
