Bruce Edwin Sleep

June 6, 1939 — October 25, 2020

Bruce Edwin Sleep, the son of Austin and Donna Parker, was born on June 6, 1939 in Martin, South Dakota. He was adopted by his paternal aunt and uncle, Clarence and Avis Sleep of Siam, Iowa, at the age of 18 months.

Bruce passed away peacefully at his home in Aurora, Colorado on October 25, 2020.

He was raised in Siam, Iowa, where he attended elementary school and graduated from high school in Bedford, Iowa in 1957.

He was united in marriage to Bobbi Reed on August 28, 1960. To this loving union two sons were born, Greg in 1962 and Randy in 1964. Bruce and Bobbi resided in Clarinda, Iowa for the first 13 years of marriage and moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1972. He was very proud of his two sons; four grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Bruce was a professional over-the-road trucker. He was the successful owner and operator of Sleep & sons Trucking which was leased to Curtis Inc. When the company was sold, he spent 30 years driving for Western Distributing. During that time, he was awarded the Mileage Driver of the Month by colorado Motor Carriers Association Safety Management Council in July 2002.

He loved trucking and never tired of his job. He was a true professional and retired in 2016 at the age of 78 due to his health. He was often heard to say, "I am the Rabbi, and I have traveled coast to coast, border to border and then some."

He was an avid collector of John Deere tractors and memorabilia.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Bobbi; son Greg and wife, Claudia of Dallas, Texas; son, Randy and his fiancée Kim of Aurora, Colorado; grandson Ian of Chadron, Nebraska; grandson Austin of Aurora, Colorado and grandson Sammy of Lakewood, Colorado, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Austin and Donna Parker; his adoptive parents Clarence and Avis Sleep; mother- and father-in-law Cecil and Gladys Reed; sister-in-law Judy Brown and brother-in-law Bernie Brown.

Bruce had a great sense of humor. He could be cantankerous at times but had a very kind heart. He was generous to a fault and a man of integrity.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and people whose lives he touched.
