Camille "Cami" Newlon of Arvada, Colorado, passed away on January 23rd, 2022.
Cami was born in Ventura, CA to Camilo and Barbara Escareno in 1943. She spent her childhood in Ventura and graduated from Ventura High school in 1961. She continued her education at Ventura City College, where she met her future husband of 44 years, Dr. John Newlon. They were married on 2/25/1962, in Las Vegas, NV.
John and Cami began their journey together in Southern California. Their family grew fast, having five children along the way. They eventually moved to Central California, where Cami supported John while he received his degrees from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
Their next move was to Nebraska, where they would spend the next 8 years. First, settling in Loup City and then to Scottsbluff. During that time, John taught High School Agriculture and Cami worked as an administrative assistant. Living in rural Nebraska, their family raised cattle and participated in various ag-related activities. Cami quickly converted from a "California girl" to a "Country girl", where she would learn to pull birthing calves in sub-zero weather and adjust to life on a farm.
From Nebraska, John and Cami moved the family to Fort Collins, Colorado. Cami went to work for the US Dept of Agriculture, while John earned his Ph.D. from Colorado State University.
After four years in Colorado, John and Cami decided to move back to Southern California. They settled in Hermosa Beach, where Cami became the executive secretary to Vic Edelbrock Jr. of Edelbrock Racing, and John became the president of ITT Tech in Carson.
With all five of their children grown, the couple returned to Crawford, Nebraska for three years to be close to and assist with elderly relatives. While there, Cami worked for Crawford High School, and she also helped John through serious health issues.
Their next move took them to Las Vegas, NV, for 13 years. Cami worked for Nadel Architecture, until the death of John in 2007. John and Cami loved Las Vegas and enjoyed hosting visits with their children and grandchildren.
After John's passing, Cami decided to move to Arvada, CO, to be close to family.
Cami is survived by her brother, James (Yvonne) Escareno of California, daughter, Katherine (Dale) Smith of California, sons, John Newlon of New York, Mike (Rachel) Newlon of Colorado, David (Gina) Newlon of Colorado, Danny (Tangee Hise) Newlon of Colorado, nephew Jamie, fifteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Cami was a devoted wife of 44 years, a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, and she spent her life giving and caring for others. Cami made countless friends along the way and will be missed by all that knew her.
