A Celebration of Life for Carmen Salazar
Feb 25, 1932 - October 28, 2022
Carmelita "Carmen" Salazar (Dominguez) went home to the Lord on Friday, October 28th, 2022.
Carmen was born on February 25, 1932 in Antonito, Colorado. She grew up with five brothers and two sisters and helped run the family's homestead, raising chickens, goats, pigs, and rabbits. She attended Antonito High School, where she was an active student, lettering in Glee club and serving as the school's basketball referee. She also wrote poetry, and had her piece, "April Showers" published in a book. She met her late husband, Rudy Salazar, at Antonito High and they began dating shortly after she graduated in 1953. In 1954, she moved to Denver to attend Barnes School of Commerce. In 1956, she and Rudy eloped secretly, starting their life together in Thornton, Colorado.
She and Rudy quickly started a family, becoming a mom to Rod (Diane) Salazar, and Renee (Kent) Statham. Perhaps her favorite role, though, was that of "Nana" to her grandkids and great grandkids– Natasha (Eric) Nelson, Richard (Anne) Salazar, Alex (Bradford) Lardner, McKenzie (Clay) Hoffman, and Tristen and Olivia Salazar. Nana attended every softball game, school play, and graduation ceremony and was a beloved part of our lives.
Carmen will be forever remembered for her steadfast faith, devotion to the Colorado Rockies, bouncy laugh, and the deep love she carried for her family. She also had a spicy side and leaves behind many fond memories of mischief, sass, and her signature "scowl."
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rudy, her siblings John, Adolfo, Paul, Angie, and Rubel. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sister Loveda and brother Luis, as well as nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
All are welcome to celebrate her life on Friday, December 2nd at Holy Cross Catholic Church (9371 Wigham St. in Thornton). Praying of the Rosary will take place at 10:30 am and the Memorial Service will be at 11 am. Please join us for a reception at Ava Maria hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tru Community Care Hospice (2594 Trailridge Dr East in Lafayette, CO 80026) or online at trucare.org.
