Carol Ann Bublitz

February 11, 1943 — October 1, 2020

Carol Ann Bublitz of Aurora, Colorado passed away October 1, 2020 at age 77. She was born on February 11, 1943 in Newport, Rhode Island to John and Helen Hodges.
As a Navy child, Carol lived in many places during her childhood and often spent time with her grandmother, Maurine Elliott, in Marshalltown, Iowa. When her father retired from the military, her family relocated to Colorado.

Carol graduated from Littleton High School in 1961 and the University of Denver in 1964, where she was an active member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She maintained many dear and life-long friendships with members of the "Alpha Gamm's."

While in Colorado, she met Gary Bublitz, and they married in Littleton in 1964. They started their teaching careers in Minnesota and Iowa before returning to Colorado, where both taught in Aurora Public Schools. At Pickens Tech Center, Carol was very active in FBLA and PBL and enjoyed taking students to state and national conferences across the country. After many happy years at Pickens, she retired in 2004. Carol was still friends with many staff members from Aurora Public Schools when she passed.

During their over 36-year marriage, Gary and Carol had a son, daughter, and two grandsons. They spent many summers traveling the Midwest, enjoying time with family and friends in Colorado, Minnesota, and Iowa. Gary passed away in October of 2001, and Carol soon moved to Heather Gardens.

In recent years, Carol kept busy with church and friends. Carol attended Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church regularly. She helped with vacation Bible school, participated in Sunday school with several friends, and was involved in Becky Mission. At church she was known for her wittiness and generosity. Carol was an avid bridge player, belonging to two bridge groups who met regularly until Covid-19 interrupted the fun. She attended several DU and sorority events, in fact one of the bridge clubs was comprised of sorority sisters. In Jeremiah Gals, Carol developed friendships with other widows.

Carol was fortunate to have one of her best friends of 50 years (Sandy Brent) return from Florida a decade ago. Sandy lived close to Carol, and they spent a great deal of time enjoying each other's company at home and church.

Lucky enough to find love again, Carol was very close with Richard Imber for the last five years. They enjoyed dining out, watching old movies, walking regularly, and attending DU events together.

As she spent time with her children and son-in-law, Carol regularly told fond stories of friends from school, her sorority, her bridge groups, and church. She will be truly missed by all the friends she made throughout the years.

Carol is survived by her son Michael (Laura), daughter Leslee (Brett Kitzman), grandsons Anthony and Jeremy, brother David Hodges (Nora), and dear friends Col. Richard Imber and Sandra Brent.

Memorial services will be held at Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church at 13231 E Mississippi Ave in Aurora, Colorado at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 with a reception afterwards. Grave-side services will follow at Fort Logan, at 2:30 p.m. but due to Covid 19, attendance is limited.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to donate to Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, or St. Jude's Children's hospital in her name.

For those who are unable to attend or who are concerned about Covid-19, Carol's services will be live-streamed at
