Carol Ann Klingsmith

August 14, 1959 — January 8, 2019

Carol Ann Klingsmith, 59, of Littleton, CO, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Carol Cloud was born August 14, 1959 in Ft. Carson Colorado, to the late Col. Howard H. Cloud Jr. (Ret.) and Jean Cloud. She was the fifth of five children. She grew up in Monument, CO, and graduated from Lewis Palmer High School. She attended Colorado St. University for three years and graduated from the University of South Colorado with a BA in Spanish with a secondary teaching emphasis.

In 1980 she married Scott Klingsmith, with whom she had three children, Kalika, Tobin, and Kerri. She worked as a substitute Spanish teacher, waitress, and accountant for a couple of travel agencies while her husband attended Denver Seminary .In 1988 she moved with her family to Vienna, Austria to serve with the mission agency WorldVenture. During her time there she worked as a missionary wife and mother and for several years was the registrar at Vienna Christian School. In 1991 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a month before she moved with her family to Romania. Although increasingly limited, she refused to let MS define who she was. She continued to be active in raising her family and serving in mission and church.

From 2009 she lived in Littleton, Colorado, where she mentored a number of women through the leadership training program of WaterStone Community Church and students at Denver Seminary.

For 11 years before her passing her body was confined to a wheelchair, but her spirit was never confined. She was a joyful, grateful person who never considered her physical limitations as suffering, and who ministered without knowing it to people who came to visit her. She loved her kids, grandkids and friends deeply. She loved writing poetry, playing Ticket to Ride with friends, watching romantic movies, and listening to audiobooks. She is remembered for her smile, her kindness, her humor (usually unintentional), and her grace in the midst of great physical difficulty. Her deepest desire was that God be glorified through her life, and that her experiences be used to draw people to Jesus.

Carol is survived by her husband of 38 years, Scott, her daughter Kalika, married to Zach Hocking, her son Tobin, married to Angelica Klingsmith, and her daughter Kerri, married to David Muir. She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew, Peyton, Cambria, and Whittier Hocking, Hugo Klingsmith, and Declan Muir, her sisters Dianne (Jim) Sloan and Paula Fling, and brother Lewis (Ann) Cloud, as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Hoard and Jean Cloud, and her brother Howard Cloud.
