Carroll James Gibson (Hoot), 94, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away April 7, 2024. He was born to the late Clarence and Ethel (Reilly) Gibson, July 28, 1929 in Aberdeen, South Dakoda.
He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1952 as an aircraft electrical mechanic while stationed in Japan during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked for Western Electric as a specifications writer in South Dakota then moved to Colorado in 1964 to continue working with Western Electric. Later he worked on AT&T systems until his retirement in the mid-eighties.
A hobby he enjoyed was building model airplanes along with visiting RC aircraft fields. He was interested in Colorado history and collecting maps of local towns and frequently drove to familiar places to note the changes in growth and landscape. He liked to read up on war time and historical events and watch documentaries on the History and Smithsonian channels. Hoot remained in touch throughout his life with his former work buddies who met monthly for lunch to exchange "war" stories. He enjoyed family gatherings and would share stories with anyone willing to listen. He especially enjoyed interacting with his young great-granddaughters who affectionately called him "Pappy Hoot." During his last months in the care center, he entertained the staff and residents with his unique sense of humor which he never lost. Many of them expressed their fondness for Hoot with heartfelt goodbyes.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marjorie; children Jim Gibson (Michelle), Tom Gibson and Krisann Weiman Curtis; grandchildren Lucy Kovich, Kevin and Kenny Weiman; his step family; daughter Theresa Erbeck; grandchildren Jessica Reid (John), Kathy Vinzenz (Dale), Jason Erbeck (Margie) and 8 great-granchildren. He is preceded in death by daughter Debbie Kovich and siblings Roy Gibson (Cynthia), Joan Grueneich (Marvin) and Alice Schmidt (Bud).
