Charles Bennett made his earthly debut on December 25, 1945, to the late Toliver and Mable Hickman Bennett in Newton TX. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 11, 2022. "Charlie" as he was affectionately known was the 6th of 7 children. His siblings who preceded him in death were Ray Eloise Gill, Betty Jean Williams, Paul Bennett, Odean Collier and Billie Catherine Elem. Mary Joe Davis of Denver, Colorado is his last remaining sibling.
Charlie attended Liberty Elementary School in Newton TX. He later moved to Santa Fe New Mexico where he attended and graduated from Santa Fe High School. Charlie was an outstanding football player and was designated as "All State". He was recruited by many colleges for his amazing football skills. He attended Community College in Durango, Colorado. Charlie also enlisted in the Army but was released on a medical discharge due to a broken collar bone he got playing football.
Charlie was employed in Santa Fe New Mexico where he worked many years as a master carpenter who could fix anything. He was a jack of all trades. Charlie later moved to Denver, Colorado to be near Mary Jo.
Charlie's favorite pastime was that he loved to walk. It was once said that he walked over 65 miles from Santa Fe to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Up until his health declined he continued to walk and rode the bus to visit with friends and family. Charlie was quiet in nature, he was a people person, and was an all-around nice person. He truly loved his family and will be truly missed.
The loving memories of Charlie will be cherished by his last remaining sibling Mary Jo Davis whom he was extremely close with, his family, friends and a host of nieces and nephews.
