Charles Cox

Charles (Chuck) Cox passed from this life to the eternal on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, in Denver, Colorado, due to complications of lung cancer. He was 83 years old.
Chuck was born on December 9, 1926, in Sayre, Oklahoma. He was the youngest son of Charles Christopher Cox and Ruth Othello Cox and brother of John and Ray Collier, and, Verda Mae, Addison, CC, DC, and Dick Cox. Chuck lived on the family farm in Sayre until the early 40's when the family moved to Home Gardens, California.
Chuck served in the U.S. Army as an ambulance driver from 1946 to 1948, serving in San Diego, California, and in Japan. After discharge from the army, he returned to Home Gardens, CA.
On February 19, 1949, Chuck married Gloria Self. In 1952, Chuck was baptized into Christ, becoming a member of the church of Christ. Chuck and Gloria moved to Corona in 1953 and adopted their only son, Jeff, in 1957. In 1961 the family moved to Amarillo, Texas, where Chuck worked for several years as a truck driver for Ponka wholesale company. Eventually, he was transferred to Albuquerque.
In 1963, Chuck and his family moved back to Sayre temporarily before moving on to Amarillo, Texas. Chuck and Gloria bought a home and lived there for twenty-one years. During his time in Amarillo, Chuck was a mechanic for Volkswagen and worked his way up to shop foreman. He retired after 15 years.
In 1982, Chuck and Gloria moved to Erick, Oklahoma, to help care for Gloria's parents. During the years that followed, Chuck also did some preaching for the church of Christ in Altus, Oklahoma.
In 1998, Chuck and Gloria moved to Littleton, Colorado, where Chuck lived the remainder of his life. He enjoyed being near his son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Chuck and Gloria celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1999 surrounded by family and friends. At the time of his death, Chuck had been married sixty-one years.
During his life, Chuck enjoyed working on cars (his favorite was a light blue 1941 Ford sedan). He also enjoyed Big Band music, prospecting, going fishing with his grandsons, and camping when he got a chance. He loved dogs and had a dog most of his life. He spent much of his time studying the Bible and attended the Holly Street church of Christ while living in Littleton.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Gloria; his son, Jeff (nicknamed Chief); his daughter-in-law, Cheryl; three grandchildren, Michael (Catfish), Stephen (Sarge), and Rebecca (Precious); his granddaughter-in-law, Heather (Sug); and two great-grandchildren, Westin (Tiger) and Madelyn Cox.
Chuck's memorial service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4th. He will be buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. For more information, contact his family.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
