Charles Daniel "Charlie" Short, 83, of Broomfield, passed away September 14, 2020.
He was born July 9, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Saxon) Short.
He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern University and then Masters Degree from Golden Gate University.
Following college, Charlie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He later transferred to the United States Air Force where he flew B-52 bombers. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Major.
Charlie was very active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, holding offices in both the United States and Europe. He also held the office of Supreme Commander of the MOC, the Honor Society of the VFW. Charlie loved to travel and traveled all over the world. A cherished grandfather, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading, especially non-fiction history and telling tales of his adventures to anyone who would listen.
Charlie was a proud sponsor dad of ten Coast Guard Cadets at the Coast Guard Academy. He proudly cheered them on during football and rugby games and offered an open couch on weekends for them to rest.
In 2005, he married Celeste Frederick.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 15 years, Celeste Frederick Short; daughter, Susan (Tony) Green; son, Daniel Short; two step-daughters, Kyle (Brent) Conley and Kate (Ben) Garvin; step-son, Dirk (Christina) Dieters; six grandchildren, Estella Conley, Liam Conley, Ada Garvin, Chloe Dieters, Miles Dieters and Nathan Dieters; his former wife, Martha Short; sister, Susan Krastin; nephews, Charles (Leigh) Krastin and John (Aly) Krastin; extended family and a host of friends; cherished dog, Bailey and three beloved cats, Aspen, Columbine and Durango.
He is preceded in death by father, Daniel Ambrose Short and mother, Elizabeth Saxon Short.
