Charley Burke, 82 of Denver, Colorado passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on June 17, 2023. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and role model to many.
Charley Burke was born on December 8, 1940 in Elaine, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Phyllis Ann Burke, his father Ulus Burke, his mother Hettie Hunter, his brothers Theodore (Ted) Burke, Gene Cure, and his sisters Rose McCain and Ruby Hunter. He is survived by his five children: Natalie Burke (Lupe); Rose Delima Burke; Juanita Burke; Charles Burke (Sayra); Miranda Jumper (Carl). Grandchildren: Mauriana Burke; Desarae White (Arthur); Charles Burke Jr.; Aaliyah Burke; Devin Williams; Vanae Sample; Carmelo Jumper and one great granddaughter Angeliq Garcia. Also surviving are siblings Ulus Burke, Gloria, and another half sister in addition to his dearly loved extended Little family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was born in Elaine, Arkansas but in his youth, he moved to the South Side of Chicago with his mother and siblings. At the age of 22, he enlisted in the army where he met the love of his life Phyllis Burke while stationed in Denver, Colorado. They married shortly after and she joined him on his many tours from: Frankfurt and Augsburg, Germany; Denver, Colorado; Fort McClellan, Alabama; and Fort Hood, Texas to name a few. During these subsequent tours they conceived their five children. He retired from the army after 20 plus years of service as a Sergeant First Class and settled in Colorado. This is when he started his career working as a mail carrier. They eventually settled in Denver where they continued to raise their family and after 20 plus years working for the United States Postal Service, he retired once again.
