Christiane Dorothea (Schmidt) Mcdonald

November 8, 1933 — October 28, 2019

Christiane Dorthea Schmidt (Aurora, CO) was born November 8, 1933 in Berlin-Dahlem, West Germany to Otto Max and Elise Gertrude (Heybeck) Schmidt. She was the third of four children born into this union (Friedrich, Wilhelm, Marlene). On October 28, 2019, Christiane passed away in her home, in her sleep - just as she wanted.

Chris, as she was known, grew up in post-war Berlin. She didn't speak much about her childhood as they were war torn years filled with unhappy memories. Through it all, she was always proud of her German heritage. On May 11, 1995, Chris took the Oath of Allegiance and received her United States of America Certificate of Naturalization.

At the age of 22, she became a nanny and housekeeper, working for U.S. Army families in Berlin. She became fluent in the English language and became involved in the hospitality business. She moved to Bitburg, Germany in 1957 to hone her skills in cooking, baking, and bartending. She became a fantastic cook, master baker, and an accomplished bartender under the watchful eye of Mr. "Stasch". After coming to the United States, Chris spent most of her time as a wife and mother. She did work outside the home volunteering for military organizations, bartending at an Aurora Western Lounge and as a counter server for Continental Sausage/Black Forest Deli.

On New Year's Eve 1958, she met Jack Gerald McDonald at a dinner party. On August 15, 1959, Jack and Chris married for the first time in a Bitburg civil ceremony. They then married a second time on September 12th in a Berlin church ceremony. At the time, Jack was in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Germany. The couple became a family with the adoption of Barbara Jean and a year later, the birth of Maureen (Mimi).
Christiane was preceded in death by many beloved family members and friends. She is survived by Barbara and Mimi (Terry), grandchildren Kevin Hume and Family, Brandi Owen and Family, Brent Hume and Family, Michael Hume, Colleen Weaver, numerous friends and extended family.

At her request, there will be no services/reception at this time. She will join husband, Jack, at Ft. Logan Cemetery (Denver, CO) at a date to be determined. Condolences may be sent in care of Mimi Weaver, P.O. Box 274, Haxtun, CO, 970-520-1847 or tmweaver80@outlook.com.
