Clarence Austin Church Jr., age 73 years old, was the son of the late Clarence Austin Church Sr. and the late Charlie Ann (Babe) Church. He was born August 12, 1932 in Evansville, Indiana. He was educated in Evansville and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951. He then joined the Navy and received an honorable discharge after ten years of service in 1961.
Rev. Church worked for and retired from the Oakland Unified School District as an administrator after 20 years. During this time he met and married Mary Walker in 1971 and remained married until his passing after 35 years. He also worked and retired from the Alameda County Sheriff Department after 15 years. Rev. Church was ordained in the ministry in 1980 at Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church and served there as an Associate Minister. In 1994, he began serving as an Associate Minister of United Church of Montbello. At the time of his passing, he was serving as an Associate Minister at Unity Church of God In Christ.
Besides his work in the ministry and his employment, Rev. Church was a devoted family man. He had a passion for traveling in his motor home, loved bowling, but most of all he loved spending quality time with his wife and family.
Rev. Clarence Austin Church Jr. departed this life on June 26, 2006. He leaves to celebrate his home going his wife, Mary Church, sons, Barry (Ladonna) Church of Sacramento, CA, Clarence (Jody) Church III of Colorado Springs, CO, Will David (Wanda) Walker of Denver, CO; Daughters, Denise Harrison of Oakland, CA, Charlotte Ann (Darryl) Victorian of Oakland, CA, Gwendolyn Walker of Aurora, CO, Carloyn L. (Donald) Wallin of Denver, CO, and Detria (Rick) Haymon of Denver, CO: Sister, Mary Ruth (Robert) Woodson of Oakland, CA: eighteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his favorite sister in law Viola (Velton) Pryor, cousins, and beloved extended family and friends.
