On March 13th,1945, Twins Clarence Edward and Carol Edwina were born to parents, Robert C.E. and Rosa Mae Henley in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
In 1947, Clarence moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona. He attended the House of Prayer for All Nations, where he played the piano for church services and the choir. Clarence graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1963. He then chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army, where he served as a medic. Ed spent most of his enlistment Serving in Vietnam where he received several medals as well as an Honorable Discharge.
After his military service, Clarence continued his passion for service by entering the medical profession. Clarence had the distinct honor of being nominated as one of two students who had the opportunity to practice medicine in Los, Angeles California. However, due to the era's racial prejudices, he was not chosen despite having the highest grades in his class. Eventually, he began working for the United States Postal Service (USPS), from which he retired while residing in Colorado.
He was also known for his exceptional gardening skills, which earned him the nickname "Green Thumb." His passion for gardening was so well-known that the United State Postal Service provided him with a plot of land to cultivate. Many family members and coworkers were able to enjoy the fruits of his labor by consuming his homegrown tomatoes, strawberries, squash, cucumbers, and more. Additionally, Clarence had a soft spot for all kinds of animals. 1f it had fur, feathers, or fins, Clarence probably took care of it at some point, turning his home into a mini-Noah's Ark.
Clarence leaves to cherish his memory his twin sister, Ms. Carol Robinson of Phoenix, Arizona; his sisters, Ms. Joyce Simmons and Ms. Deborah Chase, both of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ms. Arlene Richards of Denver, Colorado; along with a host of family and friends. Or along with more relatives and friends than you can shake a stick at.
Clarence Henley's legacy of service, passion, and love for both people and nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
