Clarence Wendell Waggoner:
Known to most as Wendell and sometimes C. Wendell Waggoner but always friend. Wendell was born in Gould, OK to Clarence and Verdie Waggoner on March 28, 1936. At age 3, he and his mother and siblings moved to Blair, OK where he grew up. Had one brother and one sister both older.
He had a meager childhood and for much of it helping to support his mother and had every job from shining shoes to pulling cotton to hay baler to wheat harvester and finally, educator with the Denver Public Schools. Counseling was a gift he used to mentor boys without fathers in an organization called Denver Boys through the schools because of his own experience as his dad left when he was 3.
His ultimate education was a Master's Degree from the then University of Northern Colorado in Guidance Counseling. He retired as Director of Denver Boys in 1992. Although retired, he continued his service with the Westerra Credit Union which lasted over 40 years and was the credit union's Santa for longer than we can remember.
Wendell was a people person and could visit with anyone especially if they were from Oklahoma. He loved the cabin in Black Hawk and was very proud of every last rock he used to landscape the yard. He also enjoyed the many trips in the RV.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and is survived by his wife, Charla; children, Wendy (Shawn), Sharon (Scott), Randy (Julia). Older daughter, Laurel, passed away in May 2022. Also survived by 6 grandkids (1 deceased) and 8 great grandkids.
Contributions in his memory/honor would be gratefully accepted at Denver Kids, 780 N Grant St, Denver, CO 80203.
