Clinton Edward Clements, 97, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019. "Clint" was born the fifth of eleven children in Bucks Grove, Kansas, to the late Ralph Ivan and Florence Nellie (Nicholas) Clements. He married the love of his life, Dorothy (Post) Clements, on June 9, 1946, in Havensville, Kansas. They lived in Denver, Colorado, throughout their nearly 73 years of marriage.
Clinton grew up on a farm in Bucks Grove, Kansas, and attended Havensville High School, where he met and fell in love with Dottie. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1944 and served his country as a Navy Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands, where he worked as a medic through World War II. When he returned home to Kansas, he and Dottie married and moved to Denver on the train with few belongings or money. Clinton worked as an operations analyst for Public Service Company of Colorado for over 30 years, until he retired in 1984. Education for his children was a high priority, and all five became first-generation college graduates. He enjoyed gardening, studying maps, traveling in the RV, fixing and repurposing things, sitting on the front porch, and laughing with family.
Clinton was a cherished member of the extended Clements-Nicholas family. Clinton is survived by five children: Gregg (and LeeAnn), Carla, Bruce (and Cindy), Lisa and Lori, with whom he shared his birthday. Clinton is also survived by eight beloved grandchildren: Brady, Todd, Adam, Bryan, Dustin, Kristen, Jordyn and Cat; seven great grandchildren: Kellen, Makayla, Sophie, Liam, Tessa, Olive and Gavin; three siblings: Dale, Phyllis and Sharon; sisters-in-law Joy, Nina, Rose Marie, and Dolores; and by dozens of nieces and nephews and their families. His sister, Phyllis, spent many hours the last several years caring for him, Dottie and Rosa Lee.
Besides Dottie and his parents, Clinton was preceded in death by siblings Ward, Gary, Rosa Lee (Jack Brennan), Grace (Joe Stotts), Glenna (Howard Johnstone), Lorraine (Charles Oates), and Harland.
Clinton will be remembered for his sharp mind and wit, extraordinary strength, pride for his children, beautiful roses and gardens, love for the outdoors and good food, Sunday popcorn nights and devotion to his wife, Dottie, who passed away just 25 days before Clinton. Sincere gratitude to Rebecca Michel, Dad's caregiver at Brookdale Denver for the last months of his life. She is truly an angel on earth.
Services will be Thursday, July 11, at 12:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd., Lakewood, CO. Interment with full military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for a health care scholarship fund, to be determined. Please write checks to Clinton Clements, and note, for scholarship fund.
