Dale L. Appleyard

June 28, 1938 — August 22, 2023

Dale is survived by loving sons Johann "Hans" and Gregory; daughter Lisa Appleyard and two grandchildren; Jude Chabinsky & Kaelyn Chabinsky. Brothers Leland and Larry Appleyard; sister Marian Hickethier.

He was born in the Appleyard farmhouse in Neillsville, Wisconsin, the 6th month on the 28th day of 1938.

Dale graduated from Neillsville High School in 1956. He joined the US Air Force after completing some college at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and Concordia University, Wisconsin. In the Air Force he refueled B-52 Bombers while he was in Pilot training in Texas.

He moved to Denver after being discharged from the Service where he met the love of his life, Elvira "Vera" Popp whom he married in June of 1968. They remained happily married until her passing in 2007.

After he was married, he became an employee of Mountain Bell/US West/Qwest, retiring in 2005 after over 30 years of service.

Dale was a longtime Elder at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Denver. He loved shoveling snow and serving as a psuedo church caretaker.

He was a longtime bandmember in polka bands, including Herman Dinges and Emmett Horst Bands. He enjoyed playing the Sax and Clarinet and singing the hits. Dale was also a popular and respected soloist for church services and funerals.

Additional bands where he enjoyed being a member and musician were the VFW Concert Band and the John Philip Souza Band.

Dale will be missed and remembered by many.
